The frighteningly topical subject of identity theft serves as the focus of this thriller. The theft of New York ESL teacher Vera de Sica`s rental car during her attendance of a conference in Los Angeles is upsetting and embarrassing, but she has no idea that her troubles are only beginning. Unfortunately, the thief finds enough of Vera`s personal papers in the car to allow his girlfriend, Charlene Cummins, to charge up a storm and make large cash withdrawals while posing as Vera, leaving her victim with a mountain of debt. While Vera desperately tries to track down her doppelganger, Charlene, not content with assuming Vera`s financial identity, attempts to turn herself into the person she imagines (quite incorrectly) Vera to be.
